For clinicians
Magnetic compression for the ear, and the research behind it.
The published evidence on pressure after ear keloid removal, what the kit is, and how to offer it in your practice.
What it is
Keloid Buds are magnetic compression discs for the ear. One disc sits on each side of the lobe or helix and the pair holds itself in place, with no clip or spring. The kit has two sizes, 15/16 inch and 9/16 inch, four comfort pads and a storage jar.
89.4%of patients had no return of their ear keloid 18 months after surgery followed by magnetic pressure, in one hospital study of 883 patients.1

The evidence
Ear keloids often come back after surgery alone. One review reported a return rate of 50 to 100 percent after removal without any follow-up step.3
Published research describes pressure on the ear as an add-on step used after an ear keloid is surgically removed.123
Magnets have been studied as a way to apply that pressure. One hospital in Korea reported that 89.4 percent of 883 patients had no return of their ear keloid 18 months after removal followed by magnet pressure.1
Keloid Buds were not tested in the studies cited on this page.

Where this started
Keloid Buds started with a dermatologist whose son wrestled. She was already giving the ear magnets from Cauli Buds to her ear keloid patients, and suggested we make a version for them.
